Bookbug Visit

We recently had a visit from Sally of Orkney Library and Archive, who visited in conjunction with the gifting of a Bookbug family bag to each P1 pupil.  Our P2s received their 'Read, Write, Count' bags, so all children went home with a goodie bag to keep, full of lots of exciting activities!

Sally read 'Gorilla loves Vanilla' (our favourite book!), and played some games with us - we all had a lot of fun!

Term 2 Topic

This term, we have been investigating "Local shops, the world of work and people who help us".  As well as our class learning, we have been lucky enough to have some visitors come to Glaintess to share their important jobs with us.

Jack's Dad came to visit and discuss his important role as an airport fire fighter.

Joan, our School Crossing Patrol Officer, popped in to tell us about her role in helping with road safety on our walk to school.  We also got to have a shot of the School Crossing Sign - it was tall and quite heavy!

Thanks to Greig and Joan for taking the time to come in and visit P1/2R, it was appreciated!  Look out other visitors coming soon! 😊

Shared Reading

Some of the children from Class 6/7 came down to do shared reading today with some of our Primary Twos. They read and discussed the Oxford Reading Tree stories and also had time for a game of BOO! We really enjoyed sharing our books with the older children and hope to arrange to do this on a more regular basis.

Children in Need 2017

We had lots of fun today, taking part in the activities organised by the Primary Seven's while raising money for Children in Need.  Some of us dressed up Spotty, we also had the chance to take part in lots of activities including a Pudsey hunt, a raffle, a cupcake competition, colouring, guess the sweeties in the jar, football shoot out and we all had a yummy cake from the bake sale!

In the afternoon we had a visit from Pudsey Bear then we went to assembly where the prizes for all the competitions were given out. Mrs Muir told us that Glaitness had raised more than £700 for Children in Need. Thank you to all the bairns and parents who helped  to raise such a lot of money.

End of Term 1

What a fast first term it has been for Class 1/2R. We have all settled beautifully into our new class and have been learning lots of new things over the past few weeks.
Here are a few snap shots of our learning this term.

In Topic we have been learning about the 5 senses, touch, taste, hear, see and smell.

Plan-Do-Review
We can choose where we are going to play and learn, do the activities and then talk about and review the learning that has taken place. The past few weeks our choices have been: Transient Art - making ourselves using lots of different bits and pieces, Lego building, Tough-spot, Topic Books, Table Top Games, Arts and Crafts.

We have been using Numicon in our Maths, learning numbers, practicing number formation, ordering the Numicon Shapes, and making up our own adding stories.

We have been learning and revising the phonic sounds s,a,t,i,p,n.

We went outside the back playground to look for things beginning with all the letters in the alphabet, do you know which letter these things begin with?

Some of the Primary Two's are practicing Tricky Words, it is not possible to sound these words out so we need lots of practice to learn them, today we were splatting the words!

Practicing spelling "ee"

Fine Motor Skills and Writing.
We have been learning to write a recount, this tells about
something that has happened in the past. We wrote about a time we hurt ourselves, a time we went on holiday and a time we had fun learning in Class 1/2R.
