Topic: Another visitor!

Today we welcomed our final visitor for our topic 'People who help us, the world of work, and local shops'.  Last term, we had discussed shops that we knew within our local environment, and identified a range of shops and premises providing different services in Kirkwall.  We then discussed where our favourite shop was and why, with the majority of us picking 'The Old Library'!

Ashley from The Old Library team came along to tell us all about the shop: it's history, the changes it has gone through since it was first opened in 1990, how a successful shop is run, and to answer our questions.  We found out how the services 'Grooves' provided have changed over the years and got to look at old records and video tapes - some of us have seen Mums and Dads (or Grannies and Grandads) use these!  We found out how the shop has expanded its services and staff over the time, and now provides retail under a number of brands and areas within 'The Old Library'.

Thanks to Ashley for taking the time to visit!
